The Governmental Affairs Committee actively promotes PA positive legislature and regulation and works with the CAPA lobbyist to monitor the legislature and regulators and participates as appropriate. The Committee works closely with the AAPA in these endeavors, attends Colorado Medical Board meetings and other regulatory agencies. Committee Members actively testify in hearings for or against legislation affecting PAs at the Colorado State Capitol.

Our Goals

  • Modernize Colorado PA practice laws – continue working toward OTP in place of collaboration laws.
  • Advocate for employment agreements determined at the practice level to allow employers to create health care teams that meet the needs of the patients they serve.
  • ·Champion optimal team practice.
  • Educate legislators and the public on the importance of modernizing PA practice laws.
  • Create PA medical boards or increase number of PAs on state medical boards.
  • Authorize PAs to receive direct reimbursement from all public and private insurers.
  • Partner with other health care entities/groups and advocate for other changes in health care law to benefit patients in Colorado.
