Wilderness Medicine Hike
Time: 8:00 – 11:00am Location: Bear Creek Lake Park
Where to Park (for free!): Meet at the parking area (it’s along Morrison Road) and we will hike into the park as a group.
Equipment: Wear your ‘regular’ outdoor attire and bring along the typical items you would use for your favorite activities (e.g. hiking, biking, camping, climbing…even skiing/snowboarding, etc.)
Attendees: This session will be geared towards PA students, but ANYONE is welcome to join! I have presented on this material to high school students, friends & family, lots of people with ZERO medical training, so anyone is welcome (including doggos on leash)!
Topics we will cover: Intro to Wilderness Medicine – how we approach medical care DIFFERENTLY in the wilderness Common Wilderness Scenarios & How to Treat Them: Improvised Wound Care Improvised Splinting Patient Litters & Carries We will do the session RAIN OR SHINE! (In case of inclement weather, there is a picnic shelter about a mile from the parking area that we can probably use as long as other people haven't 'booked' it.
