CAPA Wins Big!

After a successful 2010 Legislature, CAPA is pleased to announce the following changes which have been signed into law by Governor Ritter:

  • PA on Board of Medical Examiners: A seat on the Colorado BME has now been designated specifically for a PA. Term of service is 4 years. The PA will be appointed by the Governor.
  • PA Ownership in a Medical Practice: A PA may now own up to 49% of a medical practice within Colorado. A physician must always maintain majority ownership.
  • Physician / PA Ratio: A physician may now supervise up to four full-time PAs. Previously it was two.

Many thanks to those who made this a successful year:

  • CAPA Board of Directors
  • CAPA Legislative Team
  • PAs throughout Colorado
  • CAPA Lobbyist Edie Busam
  • Senator Betty Boyd, Chair Health and Human Services Committee
  • Colorado Medical Society
  • Colorado Board of Medical Examiners
  • CAPA Executive Director Carol Goddard

It was a great team effort and we are pleased with the results. The changes will only improve the PA profession in Colorado. The ever-changing healthcare arena will require similar efforts in the future.
